Halo 3 viral leaks onto the streets
What did you do this weekend? Microsoft spent the entire thing making Halo 3 viral
Microsoft is calling the campaign Iris, "a spiral campaign designed to
take gamers on an incredible journey through the Halo Universe."
Even more Halo 3 marketing is starting to spill onto the streets - this time quite literally.
This
weekend a group called The Society of the Ancients cropped up in London
and New York, brandishing Halo 3 Forerunner logos and handing out
flyers. The group also has its own website, with evidence of "the ancients" and their many visits.
A comic detailing the origins on Halo's Forerunners also appeared over the weekend.
It's not the first bit of Halo 3 viral we've seen this month; last week a mysterious moderator caused a stir on the official Bungie forums, and a marketing email carried a cryptic poem.
"Led by an 'unknown' hand," an MS spokesperson tells us, "users will
discover bits of previously unknown information about the Halos, the
Flood, the Forerunners, and the true origins behind the Halo trilogy."
As long as we get some single-player footage, we could give a monkey's.
The spokesman continues: "The most anticipated video game in history is
about to launch and one of the biggest questions to remain is not what
will happen next, but what started all this in the first place. The
Iris campaign will help shed light on many of those questions."
A mysterious countdown timer is ticking down to this Thursday, which also happens to be the Stonehenge Solstice. Coincidence? We don't think so.
We'll keep our eyes on the stones a let you know what kind of cryptic
madness Microsoft rolls out. If this doesn't lead to some single-player
details, we're not going to be happy.
"The answer will come in time. For now, all gamers need to know is 'look for the signs'."
